Celtic goalkeeper Chloe Logan gets first Scotland call up

Scotland Head coach Pedro Martinez Losa has confirmed Celtic FC Women’s goalkeeper Chloe Logan has been called up to the national squad for the upcoming defence of the Pinatar Cup in Murcia, South Eastern Spain.

This will be Chloe Logan’s first senior call up and is a testament to the fantastic form she has shown for Fran Alonso over the last couple of seasons in particular.

It will also be a real boost to the player to know she is one of only nine SWPL1 players to make the squad of 26 players, with two of them coming from Fran Alonso’s League Cup winning squad, as Chloe will also be joined by Celtic captain Kelly Clark, who despite being previously called up by Scotland is still awaiting her first cap, however it will likely ease the nerves for Chloe to have her captain and Lisa Robertson who has also been called up while on loan at Birmingham City, alongside her to help her settle in.

Scotland will face Wales, who they defeated previously 1-0 in a June 2021 friendly match, at the Pinatar Arena, San Pedro del Pinatar on February 16, and the game with a 2.30pm kick-off, will be shown live on BBC Alba as well as the BBC Sport website.

The winners from that match will then face the winner of the match between Belgium and Slovakia with that game taking place on February 19, meanwhile the two losing teams will also get a second game and will face each other on the same day.

From there the competition splits into either ‘Gold Medal’ or a ‘Consolation’ route, where Scotland could face Hungary, who are in Scotland’s current World Cup qualifying group, or they may face one from Russia, Poland or Republic of Ireland. That final match would then be played on 22 February.

The games will be used as preparation for April’s Women’s World Cup qualifiers with Ukraine and Spain and will be a chance for Logan to impress Pedro Martinez and force herself into contention for a place in the squad ahead of those games, meanwhile Kelly Clark will also be hoping to pick up that first cap over the course of the Pinatar Cup.

Good luck to Chloe Logan, Kelly Clark and Lisa Robertson on their Scotland call-ups, all are well deserved and a sign Celtic are being taken seriously as a club who can provide talent for Pedro Martinez Losa and a Scotland team who lie second in Europe’s World Cup qualifying Group B, five points behind Spain.

As a Bellshill Bhoy I was taken to my first Celtic game in the summer of 1987. It was Billy McNeill’s return to Celtic Park as manager and Celtic lost 5-1 to Arsenal . I thought I was a jinx, I think my Grandfather might have thought the same. It was the finest gift anyone ever gave me when he walked me through Parkhead's gates.
