Celtic and Hamilton Academical have both been charged by the SFA under rule 204, which states that all players and staff must conduct themselves in an orderly fashion. The alleged breach of this rule relates to a minor first-half incident when players from each team surrounded referee, Nick Walsh, after Leigh Griffiths tangled with Hamilton’s Sam Woods. Though the Celtic striker has since been vindicated of any stamping allegations by a panel of three former referees, the ‘handbags’ and complaints directed at the match official from both teams has led to them being punished by Scottish Football’s governing body for failing to act in an orderly fashion.
The Hoops have also been charged under the same rule, for a forgettable minor incident concerning Jozo Simunovic and his confrontational behaviour towards referee, Alan Muir, when a penalty was awarded against Celtic on 18 January 2020, during the Scottish Cup clash with Partick Thistle.
Both Celtic and Hamilton face a hearing at Hampden on 20 February 2020. If found guilty, a fine ranging between £2,500 and £20,000 can be issued for each incident.
