Celtic have even less incentive to sell Odsonne Edouard as PSG’s sell on clause is reported

It always felt like Celtic wouldn’t let Odsonne Edouard go unless a crazy offer came in, but even that might not be enough.

It was always expected that PSG would get a slice of any future fee, but The Daily Mail have reported that the French giants are due 40% of his next fee, so that does reduce the incentive for Celtic to sell him.

The biggest problem with replacing Edouard may not be the transfer fee, but players can earn much higher wages in other leagues so it will be virtually impossible for Celtic to sign someone with the same kind of quality.

We’ve regularly seen reports this summer suggesting he could be sold for anywhere around £30m, but Celtic would only pocket £18m in that case, so it’s nowhere near as much as you might expect them to earn from selling a top quality player.

When the totals are put in that perspective then there feels like even less need for Celtic to sell him, but the report still indicated that they might be prepared to listen to offers of £40m.

It’s suggested that Everton and Leicester are heavily interested in signing him and you would expect them to have the resources to make that offer.

There’s still nothing to suggest that Eddy actually wants to leave but the Champions League exit will hurt, so it’s important for Celtic to make the group stages of the Europa League at least.
