It did go under the radar as one of the weirder signings this summer, and there was a lot of surprise when Thomas Robert ended up signing for Airdrie.
He was highly rated by Montpellier and they have a solid record of bringing young players into the first team, but he decided to try his luck abroad in search of a regular starting spot.
He was linked with a lot of big teams and Celtic were included, but it does look like he made a wise choice in moving to Airdrie as he’s been able to play and develop.
It also sounds like the interest from Celtic is still there, with The Sun reporting that he’s now set to to train with them ahead of a move this summer.
Versatile Sheffield Wednesday youngster Liam Shaw has already been snapped up ahead of next season, and it now looks like Robert could be next if he impresses.

League One is currently shut down so that frees him up to essentially go on trial with Celtic, while he’s under contract until 2022 so Airdrie should manage to get a decent fee for him too.
He’s been impressive this season and his set piece ability looks particularly impressive but that’s expected from the son of Laurent Robert, but there is more to his game.
He tends to play on either wing so it’s a position that does need strengthened, and it’s worth keeping an eye on any trips from training over the next couple of weeks to see if he stands out.
