Versatile forward touted for Celtic move this summer – This could be the last chance for the transfer to happen

It’s always a bonus for the fans to see players on the pitch who are clearly fans of the club, but you also need to ensure the move actually makes sense.

Celtic will need to rebuild this summer so we’ll probably see a variety of players come and go, so it does make a lot of sense to sign an experienced player who knows the league.

HITC have indicated that Jonny Russell is emerging as an option for Celtic again this summer after missing out on a move in the past, but the timing would be interesting with this one.

He’s going to turn 31 in a couple of months so he’s never going to be a long-term option, and it does make you think that this could be the final chance for this move to happen.

He’s played a ton of games in the English Championship and he’s had a productive spell for Sporting KC in MLS so he should be a good character to have in the dressing room, but he’s never played for a club like Celtic before either.

This would clearly be his biggest move and usually experienced veteran signings are dropping down a level to pass on their experience, so it would be fascinating to see how he got on.

He’s never been truly prolific and he tends to be a wider forward who will look to create or cut inside and get a shot away, but that versatility could also be useful if he’s willing to accept a rotation role.

It sounds like he’s desperate to make the move and he could be an interesting part of a revamped forward line, but it really does look like it could be now or never when you look at his age.
