Just reflecting on a manic but highly enjoyable weekend spent with Celtic supporters at two events in Stirling and Linwood, and Muirhead is next. I’d love to visit your CSC…
On Saturday night, Graham Spiers kindly invited me to set up a bookstall in the Albert Halls for his event which featured legendary Celtic manager Martin O’Neill in conversation. As always, Martin was in top form and Graham also seemed to enjoy the good-natured rapport with the crowd following his opening ‘confession.’
A real feel good Celtic evening ended with both men the (hopefully) proud owners of my two new releases from Celtic Star Books, Celtic in the Thirties, Volumes One and Two.
Many of the guests also took the opportunity to get some personalised Christmas gifts on the night from our bookstall, or just to pop over for a chat, including a relative of 1930s Celtic star Owen McNally and an old client project manager from my ScottishPower days. It was lovely to see you again, Stephen.
Sunday afternoon involved a return trip to Linwood, to catch up with old friends from the Peter Scarff CSC. I did my first speaker event there last month, co-incidentally as the interval ‘support act’ for Martin O’Neill, and I had promised to come back once the books were released.
Peter Scarff is, of course, a key figure in Volume One, and some of his family are members of the club to this day. A lovely lady introduced herself as a relative of Peter’s fiancee Marjory Boyle, or Auntie Madge as she was to the family. Another gent advised me that he was the nephew of Dixie Deans, a Celtic hero of my childhood, and the resemblance was uncanny. And it was lovely to meet Peter Keaney and his sister and to catch up briefly with PaultheTim.
Once again, so many folk took the opportunity to come and say hello and get the Christmas shopping started early, and of course the icing on the Celtic cake was the three hard-earned points won by the team down in Ayrshire.
Thank you so much to the staff, committee and guests at both events for making me feel so welcome.
Next up for me is the Peter Johnstone CSC Quiz Night in Muirhead this coming Friday evening, when once again I will be doing a short Celtic-related presentation and hosting the bookstall. I hope to see some of you there.
If you are hosting a Celtic event in the run-up to Christmas, then why not lay on this additional service to your guests? I’ll be happy to do a quick talk/slideshow on the subject of your choice and/or set up a bookstall. It’s your call. There’s no charge to Celtic supporters clubs and hopefully we will add significant value to your event.
You can contact me to discuss dates and options via The Celtic Star website in the comments below or personally via X/Twitter (@Boola_vogue) or FaceBook (Matt Corr).

Meantime, if you would like to order your own copies of Celtic in the Thirties, Volumes One and Two, please visit our bookstore and I’ll sign both books and will be happy to add any personal dedication you would like. Makes a lovely Christmas present for Celtic-supporting dads and grandpas!
