Celtic interested in 47-goal Premier League striker, report says

If Odsonne Edouard leaves, Celtic will have to sign another striker – that is clear enough for an entire fanbase to see.

French Eddy has had some brilliant moments for Celtic, scoring just 57 goals in 94 league matches – a record that Celtic stalwarts in the past such as Moussa Dembele haven’t even matched in terms of goals-per-game – never mind over a longer period.

However, with the Frenchman rumoured to be on his way, there is a replacement who has been lined up for him – and, admittedly, it is a fairly poor one at that.

Edouard has been linked with big sides such as Everton, Crystal Palace, Rubin Kazan and Bordeaux over the last few days, with all of them likely to offer over £15million for the South American-born striker – and with a fee of that size being a huge boost to Celtic’s coffers, you would think they would reinvest it in a striker with potential.

Although according to HITC, Celtic have shown a late interest in Watford striker Troy Deeney – despite a deal almost being completed for the Brummie-born striker to head to the team he supports, Birmingham City.

Deeney only scored seven league goals in the Championship last season as Watford were promoted to the Premier League as runners-up last season, and has featured twice in the Premier League for the club he joined at the age of just 22.

However, now at 33 years old, it remains to be seen what Deeney would bring to Celtic.

His physical approach and determination would definitely make him a key member of the dressing room; but with a limited skillset, it remains to be seen if he would genuinely add any talent to Ange’s front line.

Edouard is able to pass, dribble and possesses a quick change of gears that leaves defenders eating his dust; something that Deeney doesn’t have.

However, as a quintessential target man, Deeney would offer something different at Celtic Park – and could become a cult hero if he manages to grab a couple of vital goals for Ange’s men.
