Two Celtic stars withdrawn from Scotland squad, FA confirms

The squad depth woes continue to add up for Celtic – as two of their homegrown players, Greg Taylor and James Forrest, have been withdrawn from the Scotland national team after picking up injuries.

The Hoops, who already have Christopher Jullien unavailable with a long-term injury, will further have to make do without Scottish duo Taylor and Forrest if their injuries last beyond the international break, as the former recovers from an injury picked up in the second leg against AZ Alkmaar.

And it is no surprise that Forrest is injured, with the Celtic youth product picking up yet another injury after a long-history of being on the treatment table throughout his spell at Paradise.

Scotland have yet to call up anyone in replacement of the pair, but with Taylor likely to be behind Andy Robertson and Celtic legend Kieran Tierney in the battle for a left-back berth, a left-back is not essential; although Forrest will be a much bigger miss.

Steve Clarke’s men face Denmark, Moldova and Austria in their bid to qualify for their second consecutive international tournament – after not doing so for 22 years.

After qualifying for Euro 2020 on penalties against Serbia, Scotland faced Czech Republic, England and Croatia in Group D of the tournament – however, after disappointing losses to Czech Republic and Croatia, the only salvation of the tournament was the draw against the Auld Enemy.
