‘Celtic Invincible’ scores as record breaking Midtjylland thrash Lazio

Former Celtic star Erik Sviatchenko helped Midtjylland write history in a record 5-1 victory over Italian Giants Lazio. After their Europa League clash on Thursday evening, Lazio was left stunned as Midtjylland managed to put five goals past them. The former Hoops hero helped seal the Italian’s fate by scoring the fifth and final goal of the match in the 72nd minute.

This result is a welcomed change for the Danish club, as their opening Group stage game against SK Sturm Graz resulted in a 1-0 defeat. They have also had a turbulent start to their season, winning just two out of nine games, leaving them in eighth place in the league.

Midtjylland now move up to second in Group F behind Feyenoord, who were defeated 4-2 by Lazio in the opening Group stage match. Each team in Group F now has three points apiece, so goal difference is dictating who sits where. The ex-Celtic defender helped build the Midtjylland goal difference so they now sit above Lazio.

As Group F has already proven to be unpredictable, places in the next round may eventually go down to goal difference.

It’s always nice seeing Lazio lose so enjoy the highlights from last night and then from the last time the Serie A side hosted Celtic in Rome. What a night that was!
