Celtic keen on former AC Milan striker, according to French journalist

Celtic are said to be interested in former AC Milan striker Mbaye Niang. The Senegalese Internationalist was on-loan at Saudi club Al-Ahli last season from Rennes but the French side are reportedly keen upon selling him in this transfer window. According to Sebastien Denis, Chief Reporter at Foot Mercato, newly promoted Serie A side Venezia are keen on bringing Niang but they face competition from Celtic and Fenerbahce with a Chinese side considering a move too.

The player has two years remaining on his deal at the club and Rennes are said to be keen on selling Niang for €5m. Niang started his career at Caen and impressed, earning him a move to Serie A giants AC Milan.

In 288 career appearances, Niang has scored 63 goals and assisted 31 times. Despite being tipped as the next big thing at Milan, Niang was loaned to other teams in Italy, France and England before ending up at Rennes.

Celtic are still considering a move for Rennes right-back Brandon Soppy but the trail has gone cold on this link. The new manager Ange Postecoglou wants a number of players in the door in key positions but so far the club have signed a couple of players but more bodies are needed in as Postecoglou looks to put his stamp on the team and progress ahead in Europe as well as regaining all of the trophies lost last season.
