Celtic legend makes bizarre claim about the board’s Neil Lennon decision after Ross County protests

No club should allow themselves to get into the situation that Celtic currently find themselves in, because there are so many negatives that could hold the club back.

Everyone associated with the club is now wondering what it’s actually going to take for Neil Lennon to lose his job, while he’ll also find himself in a position where every game without a win cranks up the pressure even more.

Plenty of the fans have started to lose patience with the club and that creates a toxic atmosphere, while you also have to wonder what the players will make of this.

We all know the players have too much power just now, but if Lenny has lost the dressing room and they want him to go, then there’s nothing to suggest that they’ll do everything to turn it around.

The Rangers have a serial bottler in charge of the club so hope isn’t lost in the league, but if Celtic keep dropping points then the gap will be so wide that even Steven Gerrard will struggle to mess it up.

It appears that Neil Lennon has the full backing of the board for now, while Alan Stubbs seems to think the protests on Sunday actually managed to strengthen the manager’s position.

This was reported by the Scotsman as Stubbs stated that the board wouldn’t want those scenes to dictate what decision they want to make.

It’s a pretty bizarre claim to make, and it would also suggest that the board are either alarmingly arrogant or wilfully incompetent – traits you don’t want to see in the running of any football club.

The decision over the manager has to be made with the future of the club in mind and nothing else. If they think Neil Lennon is no longer the best man for the job then there’s no justification for letting him stay.

It would be deeply troubling if the board would rather make decisions based on public perception or as a way to stick it to the fans who turned up to protest on Sunday, but it’s hard to look at this in any other way.

Stubbs also mentioned that he doesn’t think Lennon should still be in the job and he’s not the only high-profile former player to say that, so this circus looks set to rumble on.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t go on long enough to ruin the prospect of 10IAR
