Celtic legend Neil Lennon completes Europa League group stage triumph

Celtic legend Neil Lennon has helped Omonia Nicosia qualify for the Europa League Group Stages after beating Gent in the Play-Off round. The Belgians were shocked 4-0 on aggregate as Lennon continued providing European upsets even after leaving Celtic.

Gent were the heavy favourites to go through but Lennon’s side beat them 2-0 home and away to make sure that his team go into the hat for tomorrow’s draw.

This is the Irishman’s first job since leaving Celtic in late February last year with the season all but over, having imploded in the search for a tenth consecutive title. This lead to an enormous amount of disharmony at the club, something that Ange Postecoglou has done well to remedy. While Ange will take his side into the Champions League, Lennon will take the Cypriot Cup winners into Europe’s second competition.

Lennon won ten titles with Celtic, eight Scottish Cups and three league cups in two spells as manager and as a player. He will always be a Celtic legend but it was clear that his time as manager was up. Lennon will be recognised for all that he has done for the club but it may take some time as last season has been incredibly tough for everyone involved.

Best of luck to Lenny and his new side in the Europa League.
