Celtic likely to smash transfer record fee this summer

Will we break our transfer record this summer? That’s the question Celtic fans are asking as we await official confirmation from the club announcing the return of Brendan Rodgers and as his arrival back to the club coincides with the opening of the transfer window, it will only be a matter of time before we are linked with numerous signings.

Brendan is reportedly being handed a massive transfer budget in his quest to take the club to the next level, so that begs the question, who will we be looking to bring in? You’ve got to assume he’ll be looking for top quality in the transfer market. If so can we expect to see us shatter our transfer record?

The most cash we have ever parted with to acquire the services of a single player was of course spent on luring Odsonne Edouard to Celtic Park from PSG back in 2018, ironically signed by the man himself Brendan Rodgers.

We of course already have the best squad of players in the country, but we could also lose a couple of faces, and with the club wanting to broaden our horizons in Europe a few new faces will most certainly be brought in to freshen up and bolster our squad.

Will Brendan break the transfer record once more? It remains to be seen, but don’t be surprised to see us surpass that £9 million figure. We may well be about to witness the biggest transfer splurge by the club since the days of Martin O’Neill.

I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

I really don’t get this enthusiasm for the return of the snake. The Celtic Star is my go to for Celtic news but all this enthusiasm for having him back is sickening me. Check out the list of his transfers when he was here before. Not too many good acquisitions there, and only Scott Bain is still with us I believe.

Couldn’t agree more. .The manner of his departure is of no consequence to me in this appointment.
After his initial signings of Dembele , Edouard & Sinclair nobody of any stock was signed .
Remember this is a man who was so fortunate to have Craig Gordon in place as he was ready to replace him with “Doris “ gawd forgive me .
Friends in Liverpool will forever call him the “Snake oil Salesman” A man who wouldn’t know a quality CH or GK of he woke up beside them.

    Simply not for me

    • As soon as Suarez left Liverpool things went to pieces, he was covering the mess that below. Then when Rodger’s spent the money from Suarez it was wasted. As much as I disagree with his his departure and won’t trust him after he left us in the lurch I don’t want him anywhere near transfer business as he is awful. I could have spotted edouard a psg wonder kid dembele was well known as was Sinclair so just diabolical hard to miss the target and who was helping behind the scenes. Worrying.

Ange showed it’s not about spending crazy money it’s about knowledge of the market which can even be found online and with connections so no excuses.

I can see both sides, leaving during a campaign is never a good look. However Rodgers was let down by the club by not supporting his desire to progress at champions league level, probably by Lawell. How many times have we seen Peter wait till after the champions league qualifiers before signing anyone where signings before the qualifiers may have gotten us there. Speculate to accumulate!

As it is being reported now, Rodgers is seeking assurances from Dermott, not the chairman or CEO about budget for champions league quality players. With the change to the champions league next year it is imperative that Celtic have a good run in Europe this year, making the 36 next year,. Let’s be honest in that we can’t rely on any other Scottish teams to help the coefficient. Motherwell, therangers and Dundee United earlier this past season prime examples of this. Also with 2 additional games in the new format after this season, which probably equates to another £10 million, taking champions league money to £40 million a year instead of £30 as is currently the case. Seedings (club) and coefficient points are so important this coming year.

It was rumoured Ange identified that we needed 3 players right up the spine of the team, left centre back, centre mid and centre forward at around £7 million a player to take us to the next level of European football.

All Brendan is asking for is that to be guaranteed. Ange was a good coach but like Rodgers left for the most lucrative league on the planet. Ange done this when backed by Nicholson and kissing the badge. Rodgers was let down by the board (Peter Lawell) then left. You could even argue that Ange’s betrayal was worse.

Also Rodgers record was better than Ange’s in 2 seasons, so get behind the Celtic manager because as they say in football, win together, loose together.

As Rod also sings “Celtic United”!

  4. He should never been allowed back, he’ll cost us a fortune and we’ll make no progress.
People bang on about Daniel Levy but DD makes him look like a recluse, far too much say for a guy with 34% of the shares, he doesn’t own Celtic but he’s allowed to act like he does. Knutsen was a stand out candidate but I’d put my savings on that he wasn’t spoken to re the job.

    • Knutsen was the one for me but they will be taking the route of no compensation and less risk better the devil you know.

Rodger’s leaving when he did taking emotion out was just totally unprofessional and disrespectful to his current employer at the time.

Let’s say Rodger’s is manager, gets us through group stages and epl offer comes in he is going bye bye and leaving us up a creek. I thank him for his part in the achievements of the team while he was here but trust can’t be bought.
