Celtic linked with £1.3m move for promising international striker

Promising strikers continue to be linked with Celtic and it does make sense, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that any big names will have to leave.

HITC have reported that Celtic are interested in signing promising Bulgarian international Martin Michev, who can play anywhere across the front line.

Although he can play through the middle, he’s never been a prolific goalscorer and he looks more like a wide option than an eventual successor for Odsonne Edouard.

He only turned 19 last month but he’s actually played in almost 80 senior games already, so he’s experienced and does look ready to step up to the next level, while he’s made four appearances for the Bulgarian national team too.

There will always be a fear from Celtic fans that a new striker might signal the end of Edouard in Glasgow, but it makes a lot of sense to bring some promising players in now so they are ready to step up when he does leave.

It’s suggested that he will cost around £1.3m, which is a decent amount but should be affordable for Celtic, and you have to think he could be sold on for a significant profit if things go well.

His career record of 11 goals in 77 games isn’t that impressive, but he’s still young and he plays for Cherno More who are a mid table side, so he might get more chances to score with Celtic too.

Nothing has been agreed at this point, but he does come across as the type of player that Celtic have seen success from in the past.
