Hibernian 2-5 Celtic: 6 May 2001

19 years have elapsed, but the 5-2 victory over Hibernian is a match that many will remember. Celtic were in rampant form at Easter Road that day, getting off the mark in the fourth minute when McNamara scored.

The Hoops lined up in unusual fashion: Kharine, Boyd, Vega, Valgaeren, Agathe, Lennon, Lambert, Thompson, McNamara, Moravcik, Larsson. However, after racing into the lead, McNamara was at it again making it two in the 18th minute.

Henrik Larsson scored a third for Celtic on 62 minutes, which meant he equalled Brian McClair’s SPL goalscoring record with his 35th strike of the season.

The defenders were in prolific form as second half substitute, Alan Stubbs, got in on the goalscoring act six minutes later. A minute after the restart, a defender caught the eye once more, this time Didier Agathe was sent off for persistent fouling!

The red card mattered little though as Moravcik put Celtic 5-0 ahead in the 80th minute, before Hibs added two consolation strikes at the end.

We of course saw the same scoreline in this season’s League Cup semi-final!
