Celtic linked with Motherwell’s Bevis Mugabi, according to report

Celtic are being linked with Motherwell central defender Bevis Mugabi, according to a report. The Ugandan Internationalist, who was born in England, joined Motherwell in 2019 and is now being tipped with a move to Celtic as he enters his final six months at Fir Park.

According to The Scotsman, Celtic could consider adding Mugabi as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his squad ahead of the second half of the season. With Christopher Jullien returning, Celtic keen to exercise the option to buy on Tottenham’s Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt in the mix for first team football, signing Mugabe doesn’t make a great deal of sense.

The article refers to Postecoglou looking for a Scottish-based wildcard as he looks to secure his rearguard with reinforcements. The boss said that Jullien returning is like a ‘new signing’ and he is absolutely correct, the Frenchman’s year-long absence has been felt at times (especially last season) and his return will be gradual. Postecoglou also has to deal with Scotland U21s captain Stephen Welsh, who is continuing to progress into a fine young talent. Game time for this pair is likely to be required to make sure that Starfelt and Carter-Vickers remain rested as Celtic chase three trophies in the second part of the season.

  1. Let’s hope that the “Scotsman” report is nothing more than column-filling tosh, as this guy is surely nowhere near the sort of player that Ange would be looking to recruit, even for emergency cover. Whenever I’ve seen him play for Motherwell, even in short TV highlights, he’s been guilty of badly-timed challenges, that would have seen him booked or sent-off if he had been in Celtic colours. He certainly should have been sent off in each of the games he’s played against us! I’d far rather see Dane Murray in the team, or on the bench.

  2. Looks a very good player and if Celtic take a chance on him then Ange would have a very good CH
