Report links Hibs attacker with Celtic move; listed £3m asking price

Martin Boyle is once again being linked with a move to Celtic. However, The Scotsman reports that the fee that Hibs would demand for their top scorer is £3m, making any move unlikely. The Australian Internationalist has been linked with Celtic before but no move has transpired.

The Hibs winger scored 15 goals last season and impressed as the Easter Road outfit finished third. This year, he has continued this excellent run of form, netting 7 times including a hat-trick against Rangers at Hampden. He put the ball into the box for Paul Hanlon’s goal in the League Cup Final last month, where Celtic ran out 2-1 winners.

The player has been linked with a move to Celtic before, with moves touted in 2020 and again in 2021 but given the fee that the Edinburgh side demanded at the time resulted the Parkhead outfit opted against making a move. Boyle was watched by Celtic in January 2020 but the £1.5m figure that Jack Ross put on his head appeared too much for the club hierarchy to sanction a move. Despite the obvious interest, the now 28-year-old was able to sign a new deal until 2023. It is unlikely that Celtic would pursue Boyle, given the doubling of his fee in this period. What has most likely occurred is that Celtic are being used as a stalking horse to flush out interest from

Celtic could yet again revisit their interest in Boyle but it seems highly unlikely given the quoted fee as well as the arrival of a trio of J-League talents. Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi all joined on Hogmanay as the manager seeks reinforcements. Celtic could benefit from youthful duo Mikey Johnston and Owen Moffat gaining loan time under a coach like Maloney, having struggled to make an impact in the first team. Maloney is said to be keen on Ewan Henderson, who is out of contract in the summer. His brother had a successful loan spell at Easter Road back in 2016.
