Celtic look set to miss out on striker as Championship side have £5m bid accepted

Going into this summer Celtic’s striking situation looked fairly stable, but the whole debacle with Leigh Griffiths and his weight has thrown that into question.

You have to hope that Leigh will prove his fitness and he’ll work his way back into that back up role behind Eddy, but it’s not guaranteed.

It’s also interesting that Patryck Klimala could prove himself to be more than an impact sub here and there, but he will need to do more than score once in a friendly to earn that.

All of this means that Celtic could be in the market for a new striker this summer, so expect plenty of names to be linked.

Ivan Toney has been linked with Celtic on a regular basis in recent weeks, but it’s starting to look like he’ll be staying in England.

A report from Football Insider has suggested that Celtic were considering a move, but English Championship side Brentford have now had a bid accepted in the region of £5m.

It’s hard to see Celtic matching that offer when Odsonne Edouard will clearly be the first choice player this year, and it could be a tough sell to convince him to move when he won’t be guaranteed to play.

It could also be a good move for Toney as Brentford play some nice football and look like they could be promoted to the Premier League next year.

From Celtic’s point of view it’s hard to say the interest was ever truly serious, and this should put an end to any further speculation.
