Celtic midfielder set for £2m Championship exit

David Turnbull looks set to sign for EFL Championship side Cardiff City. The 24-year-old has made 14 appearances for Celtic this year, scoring 7 goals but with just months remaining on his deal, the Scottish Champions have cashed in.

As reported by Mail Sport’s Stephen McGowan, Cardiff are paying £2m for the Scotland Internationalist.

Signed from Motherwell in 2020, Turnbull won Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year in his debut season as Celtic toiled.

The midfielder made 134 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals and assisting on 23 occasions. Appearances and first team opportunities were limited due to Tom Rogic, Reo Hatate Matt O’Riley and Aaron Mooy.

The player will likely enjoy success in England but didn’t have the requisite pace to keep up with the attacking requirements Celtic. The club have done well to get a fee for Turnbull, who is out of contract.

Despite being quite one footed, Turnbull was excellent at crossing the ball and hitting the ball from range. Turnbull leaves Celtic with two Premiership titles, two League Cups and two Scottish Cups.

    • £2 MILLION HASNT DINE IT THIS SEASON AFTER GOOD FIRST 3 GAMES ON SAT AGAINST ROSS COUNTY LOOKED SLOW CHASIN BACK AFTER LOSING THE BALL WISH HIM WELL hiati suppose to be injured could scupper it

    • Spent around £22M this season… on comparison the WHOLE EPL only spent £50M this window… some people cannot handle reality

  2. At this stage of the window it’s getting nearly impossible to get a read upon the thought process of Rodgers, if he indeed even has one at all presently?
Went into this window with concerns about the decision making of Rodgers to date, especially with the Philips signing along with some very questionable match day decisions imo.
However getting 2M for Turnbull when there never seemed like a new contract in the offering looks decent enough business on paper, as always felt Turnbull time with the club was coming to an end?
Again the timing seems strange and even more so when we can’t really know what the potential injury status of Hatate could be yet?
Along with now needing a potential extra Scottish homegrown player into the squad for CL?
Not an issue now but certainly you would have thought some planning would have gone into the Turnbull situation?
Now potentially 1 midfielder short to keep the balance right in the midfield areas.
2 potentially injured and without knowing the extent in Hatate and iwata?
Holm remains as a work in progress player for ourselves with potential imo, but maybe our only real backup option available in the midfield area for 3 big away days coming up?
Maybe Rodgers is a fantastic poker player, but certainly playing a dangerous game at present imo?

    • Turnbull minus the goals a man down at times, coming on as sub against The Rangers summed it up he was just on and their players were all running by him… he looked as if he had been player for 2 hours.
