Celtic miss out on Nice central defender

CELTIC have missed out on the signing of OGC Nice central defender Christophe Hérelle after the Frenchman decided to join Brest in a deal ranging between 3-4m euros. According to Get Football News France, the defender is expected to complete the move to Nice’s Ligue 1 rivals despite late interest from Celtic.

The 27-year-old can play right back as well but his natural position is in the centre of defence. Unfortunately Celtic were unable to beat Brest to the signing of a player that was transfer listed by the Cote D’Azur side.

Hérelle would have been the fifth French player signing in successive years with Christopher Jullien, Odsonne Edouard, Olivier Ntcham and Moussa Dembele all arriving at the club in recent times as promising French stars appears high up on the scouting plans of the club.

Celtic are in the market for a new central defender ever since Jozo Simunovic left the club in the summer. The Croatian’s departure means that Neil Lennon only has Kris Ajer and Christopher Jullien as recognised senior central defenders ahead of a potentially historic season. The position is one in which the club must strengthen in during the transfer window and a player like Hérelle would have made a difference.
