Celtic move for youngster now seems unlikely as English side offer him a new contract

In some ways it’s hard to work out what Celtic will do in the transfer market this Summer, as the squad is looking pretty strong.

There’s probably a need for another wide player and a goalkeeper if Forster and Elyounoussi return to Southampton, but there’s no real weaknesses.

Part of that is down to the work done in recent years by bringing in young talents to develop, while some of the academy players are ready to push for a place.

Next season it’s easy to see the likes of Lee O’Connor, Jonathan Afolabi, Karamoko Dembele, Luca Connell and Ewan Henderson getting minutes, so it means the main focus will be players who will obviously improve the team or signing some more projects for the future.

One of those could’ve been Birmingham City defender Mitch Roberts. The Birmingham Mail suggested that Celtic have been interested in him since last Summer, with the centre back impressing in Birmingham’s youth teams.

Any move to Glasgow is now looking unlikely, after the report goes on to confirm that Roberts is one of a few players who have been offered fresh terms to stay at the club.

It’s not clear if he will sign that extension or look elsewhere at this point, but with no solid evidence of Celtic looking to make a move then it appears that their interest has dried up for now.
