Celtic Must Be On Their Guard Tonight As Per Postecoglou’s Momentum Warning

Celtic face a tough trip to Pittodrie this evening in what, as ever, is a must win match. The Hoops have been requiring maximum points to stay in the title race virtually all season, and now it is likely the requirement will be the same to stay top of the pack.

Aberdeen are difficult opponents who already took points off the then league leaders recently. Meanwhile, Celtic only just edged past the Dons in the last two fixtures between the sides. At this venue last time out, the Hoops won 2-1 courtesy of a late strike by Jota. That result was the second of a long unbeaten run in SPFL football, spanning 19 games (23 games when domestic cup competitions are added).

It’s fair to say that Celtic are a very different proposition since then, and the Hoops are currently enjoying a sensational run of form. However, Ange Postecoglou was keen to stress that momentum doesn’t guarantee anything and his players will have to continue to make things happen if they are to be successful.

The manager has instilled that attitude into his team, who showed no signs of a post Glasgow Derby comedown at Fir Park last Sunday. Instead, the Bhoys were at their imperious best scoring four goals to swat aside the Steelemen.

Celtic will likely need to turn in a similar performance, with the same approach to ensure they take the points back to Glasgow and either maintain or extend their lead at the top. It is essential we stay on our guard and come away from a very difficult fixture with yet another win. Thereafter, we can enjoy a break from SPFL football with some cup action and European exploits to interject the league campaign.
