SATURDAY 19th MAY 1917 – 40,000 are at Hampden, many of them in uniform, to see Celtic beat Queen’s Park 1-0 in the Glasgow Charity Cup final. Jimmy McColl scores the only goal of the game. Meanwhile in France at the Battle of Arras, stretcher bearers are unable to find any trace of Celtic’s Peter Johnstone. God bless him.

SATURDAY 19th MAY 1984 – A dreadful Scottish Cup final today with many Aberdeen supporters ashamed of the way their players behaved as Roy Aitken was sent off. Ironically, the two worst offenders later became involved with Celtic, while Roy Aitken became manager of Aberdeen! Celtic deserved at least a draw after Paul McStay equalised late in the game, but in extra time, the man whom Aitken had “fouled” was able to score the winning goal and run up the field in triumph! Despicable, and difficult to forgive, even after he played a large part in Celtic’s Centenary season.

SATURDAY 19th MAY 2018 – One of the better Scottish Cup finals as Celtic, in bright sunshine, win the Scottish Cup for the 38th time by beating Motherwell 2-0 with first half goals from Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham. Celtic have now won two back to back trebles. Today is the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – a phenomenon which singularly fails to impress Celtic supporters!
