Celtic ramp up pursuit of £5m winger after UCL stalemate

Celtic are reportedly ramping up their pursuit of winger Jakob Breum. The Scottish Champions have made a couple of bids for the Danish attacker but Go Ahead Eagles have held firm, insisting on £5m.

Now, in the wake of a sobering and dull display against Kairat Almaty in the UEFA Champions League Playoff, the Celtic moneymen have reportedly returned to the transfer market.

According to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph, Celtic are returning to talks with the Belgian side – who said that Celtic could take a leaf out of Rangers’ book over their pursuit of Antman.

Celtic have been linked with this player for a number of weeks but the reality is that it isn’t good enough from the club to sanction a move after the UCL deadline is passed. However, options are needed with quality desperately needed up top.

Celtic are also reportedly keen on signing Calvin Stengs from Feyenoord. The Dutch Internationalist is said to be available but there are yet to be talks between the clubs with the interest thus far being between Celtic and the player’s agent. Celtic are in the market, and have been for a while, for attackers.

Well, we certainly need players and we certainly could let a few go. It’s very difficult for any one of us to be sure what is going on at Manager/Board level with this club. Players for sure do not have the SPL as their first choice of league to play in. They would probably be reluctant at first and as time gets closer to the end of the window, they may very well become more amenable to the switch to Scotland. We also have to remember that Brendan Rodgers brought in many of the players who have turned out not to be up to the hoped-for requirements, as he sees it. He has to take the blame for that. For example, it’s not Adam Idah’s fault he was bought for 9 million. He is nowhere near that price. Maybe 2 million or at most three. He is a good League 1 striker in England but not anywhere near good enough for Europe. We have to continue to buy clever in countries like Japan or maybe South America and get a 30 million player for 2 million.. If we are going to buy in Europe, we had better make sure that we get players who will at least get us into the Champions League. It might be that the board has had enough of Brendan, who has repeatedly played Adam Idah instead of Daizem Maeda at centre forward and only reluctantly used Yang. To my mind, apart from Daizen Maeda, Shin is our best centre forward. He might also be useful on the wing, but for Brendan to persist with Adam Idah was clearly wrong and he should never start a game again at Celtic. Ange awaits, so maybe if we get through to the Champions League proper, he will have to stay patient until next season and if we don’t, he can drop right in straight away.

  2. Yea, yea. Believe it when I see someone has actually been signed. Just look at the number of players that Celtic have supposedly been linked to, yet nothing has happened.

Wonder who feeds this garbage to the press – more than likely coming from the Board and one particular individual who has a habit of trying to kid the fans.

Well, enough is enough and I think the Board have been rumbled. With last nights pathetic display on the pitch, the fans have shown the Board just who they blame – and it isn’t the manager (whom the Board no doubt would have hoped would be the scapegoat).

The invisible man, Nicholson and his puppet-master Lawwell with their greed for money in the bank have stupidly managed to gamble away the team’s future.

Selling off Kyogo and Kuhn with no replacements lined up was the height of greed and arrogance from those pair who should be hounded out of the club if it was at all possible but presumably will cling on to their jobs while the fans are ignored and taken for mugs given the love and loyalty they have for the club.

  3. Blaming the manager for bad signings is exactly what the Board would like to be the case but most fans know he isn’t to blame
It’s become obvious that the manager doesn’t spend the money or buy players – that’s all down to Nicholson and his team who have failed both him and us.

This nonsense about Rodgers being given a budget to buy players is just that. He has little or no say in who is brought in and that has now also become blatantly obvious as Rodgers has now blown Nicholson’s cover.
