Celtic rivalled in quest for Tannadice Keeper?

“I don’t want to force a change, but I am already aiming for the next step in my career. If there is interest, I’ll take a close look.”

Those were the words of Dundee United’s Benjamin Siegrist, who has openly been looking for a move away from Tannadice for the last 12 months after a stellar run of form.

The Swiss shot-stopper, who has been at The Tangerines for three seasons now, has had an imperious spell in the City of Discovery, winning promotion from the Scottish Championship and being an almost ever-present in the country’s top flight this season. It has been no big secret that the 6″4 keeper wishes to depart for bigger and better things; the argument, however, is where exactly he will leave for.

Recently, it has been reported that Ipswich Town have registered an interest in Siegrist – however, with the temptation of Champions League football dominating that of mediocre English League One football, and likely with better wages too, it should really be a simple choice for the ex-Aston Villa academy graduate. With Celtic’s goalkeeping pool of Barkas, Bain and Hazard not performing anywhere near to the desired standards that Celtic demand over the past calendar year, there may be an option to bring in Siegrist on a cut-price deal as he enters the final year of his contract – with The Sun suggesting a fee of £400,000 should be enough to prize Siegrist away from Tannadice and down the A9.
