Celtic Scouting Lawrence Shankland?

CELTIC scouts have an extensive file on Lawrence Shankland, a player that they have been monitoring since his time at Aberdeen.

Given the problems that Derek McInnes has had this season in the striker’s department it is somewhat surprising that he allowed Shankland to leave the club. His loss is however Ayr United and Ian McColl’s gain.

Shankland has been a goal machine this season, netting 16 times already for the Ayrshire club who like their neighbours Kilmarnock currently top their division.

This evening Inverness Caley Thistle, the club who Celtic spent £500k with to secure the services of Ryan Christie, are the visitors to play the Honest Men at Somerset Park and it is live on BT Sport.

If you fancy seeing what all the fuss is about, tune in this evening and scout the striker for yourself!

Swansea are the latest club to be linked to Shankland with reports that they are preparing a £400k bid for the January window. Many other clubs are also credited with having an interest, including Rangers.

In the winter transfer window last year Brendan Rodgers looked to the Championship to its best player – Lewis Morgan at St Mirren, again for a fee of around £500k – and loaned him back for the remainder of the season.

Shankland is easily the best player in the Championship this season and the same kind of money would be all that would be required to sign the goal-scorer. With Leigh Griffiths seemingly struggling to get himself match fit, Brendan Rodgers has had to rely ion Just one striker – Odsonne Edouard and that must be a major concern for the Celtic manager.

Could Shankland do a job for Celtic as the third choice striker?

An alternative scenario that could emerge in January could be the sale of Alfredo Morelos for decent money and replacing him with Shankland, who is reportedly a Blue Nose himself.

That would solve Dave King’s cashflow problems and would probably be enough to keep the Bears happy.

The thing is, Shankland would probably score just as many goals for them as the indisciplined Columbian. He’s the kind of poacher that reminds some of a young Ally McCoist – and look at the damage he did to us over the years!

Is he worth a punt? Have a look at that game this evening. Meanwhile watch this…
