Celtic seal late deal for Tottenham defender, with option to buy

Celtic have sealed a late deal for Tottenham defender Cameron Carter Vickers. The 23-year-old spent last season on loan with Bournemouth and it had been a battle to see who would sign him ahead of the new season. However, moves did not materialise for Carter-Vickers allowing Celtic to seize the initiative and make a late play for a deal.

The US Internationalist has a year remaining on his contract and it is believed that there is even be a provision in the agreement for Celtic to buy the player at the end of this spell. That way Spurs would get a fee for a highly-rated central defender. However, Football London’s Alasdair Gold claimed that Spurs have an option to extend the player’s contract and they would likely do this if they feel they can get a better price for the player next summer.

As The Celtic Star told you yesterday, the club were awaiting news on whether Newcastle would seal a deal to sign the player but given the English window shut at 11pm, Celtic launched a late bid to sign the defender.

This is a coup for Celtic and he will add some depth to the defence, something that fans were hoping would transpire on deadline day. Thanks to Larry Henry Jnr for updates throughout this deal in the last few weeks.

Here’s the confirmation from Celtic…

  1. At Last. As Liewells biggest critic, I am actually going to compliment the Celtic Board for the first time since St. Martin took charge.
Well done on an absolutely scintillating transfer window. However, I advise that you now learn to “Top Up” and stay at the higher level. Of course “Top Ups” should be of a better quality than what’s already there although, I am sure you know that !
