Jeremie Frimpong could be set to net Celtic around £13m if he is sold by Bayer Leverkusen this summer. Frimpong was involved in the Dutch World Cup campaign and is attracting interest from a host of Premier League clubs.
According to Kicker, Leverkusen are targeting Spanish right-back Ivan Fresneda for a move in the summer as they look to reinvent their squad this summer, allowing a sizeable fee to come into the Bundesliga side. The succession plan suggests that the player could be sold as per his wishes to move on, with a Premier League move expected.
The young fullback joined Leverkusen in January 2021 after an impressive spell with Celtic; he was only there for 18 months. Frimpong, who turned 22 in December, will be attracting interest in the summer as he looks for another move in his short career.
The move has paid dividends for both Celtic and the player as he has been able to push on after struggling to see a path under Neil Lennon in the 2020/21 season. Now, he is attracting interest with powerful running down the right-hand side. Man Utd and Real Madrid are just two teams that are said to be competing for the player’s signature.
Reports have indicated that a fee of up to £50m could be reached, resulting in a great sell-on returning to Celtic Park. The Daily Record suggests that the fee could be as high as that mentioned but there is likely to be add-ons attached to this.
Celtic, who paid £350,000 for the player’s services from Manchester City, received an offer they couldn’t refuse for Frimpong and it was off to the Bundesliga and Bayer Leverkusen for Jeremie for a fee on £13m. Even with a sell on clause due to City, Celtic will likely net a tidy sum on Frimpong’s next move.
United boss Erik Ten Haag has already targeted a number of Dutch players since arriving from Ajax. Frimpong would certainly suit the aggressive style at United but much depends on whether Diego Dalot signs a new deal.
