Celtic send birthday wishes to icon Shunsuke Nakamura

Celtic have wished one of their favourite sons, Shunsuke Nakamura a Happy Birthday today. The ex-Japan international spent the best years of his career at Parkhead and gave the Hoops supporters many a good time and wonderful memories along the way during his time at Paradise.

Having been signed by Gordon Strachan when he joined the club from Reggina in Italy’s Serie A, the wide-man shows his undoubted class and ability straight from the off in Scottish football and was rightfully feared up and down the country. A master in the art of free-kick taking, Shunsuke scored some memorable goals for the club and helped down Manchester United at Celtic Park I  the UEFA Champions League group stages with this beauty…

He also won the League for us in 2007 with a last-gasp winner at Rugby Park which was another cracker of a free-kick which sent the Celtic supporters which were jam-packed into the Ayshire outfit’s stadium into raptures that day. It was well worth the wait and just another show of his magnificent technique and class.

And of course, who could forget his helping to down the now dead Rangers Football Club of 1872 back in 2008 during the Twists and Turns season at Celtic Park. It’s arguably in the running for the best goal scored for Celtic in either the Old Firm derby or the more recent Glasgow Derby matches between the two in the last eleven years now.

Here it is once again…

Happy Birthday, Shunsuke!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. He also gave Kieran Tierney his boots when Kieran was just a wee lad. I’m fairly sure Kieran has them under lock n key.
