Celtic set for Frimpong World Cup Windfall

Former Celtic wing-back Jeremie Frimpong is set to net the Hoops another cash influx from his inclusion at this year’s winter World Cup in Qatar. The young Dutchman has been included in Louis van Gaal’s final squad and will be flying to the Middle East with the likes of Barcelona star Frankie de Jong and Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.

As the 21 year-old played for Celtic within the last two years, the club will be entitled to extra cash from his participation. This is also despite the fact that he has not been fully capped by the Netherlands, being available to Ghana and England too.

But now it looks like he has thrown his weight behind a Dutch international career. He has been capped for Holland’s U-19, U-20, and U-21 sides and will look to push for a starting place at a major tournament after playing well for club side Bayer Leverkusen lately.

Frimpong moved to the Bundesliga in January of 2020 when the heirarchy flipped the player who had recently arrived for a pittance. We received around £11.5 million for the diminutive defender’s signature when he moved to Bavaria and he has went from strength to strength in Germany too. It’s his current form which prompted the manager’s decision to include him in the 26-man group.

Celtic are already set to benefit from having four of our star’s playing at Qatar 2022 in the coming weeks. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Josip Juranovic, Aaron Mooy, and Daizen Maeda are all set to fetch the Bhoys around £680,000 for participation (as per Scottish Sun). Now it looks like their could be more for the coffers as old player Frimpong is included in that pool of Dutch internationals.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
