Celtic set to miss out on Tottenham starlet

CELTIC look set to miss out on Ryan Sessegnon with the English youngster looking ready to seal a temporary switch to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

The youngster joined Spurs for £25m last summer but has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular with the London club meaning he will look for a loan move to get some valuable first team football. Sky Sports are reporting that he will have a medical with the German club after they agreed a deal with Tottenham for a loan.

The recently departed Bolingoli’s antics meant that Greg Taylor was the only first team left back at the club after Jonny Hayes and Calvin Miller left in the summer. Sessegnon represented a player that the club would otherwise not afford but would fit perfectly into the side – doing on the left what Jeremie Frimpong does on the left. However, the £5m fee that Tottenham wanted for wages and a sum for facilitating the loan proved too much for Celtic, who will see better value for money elsewhere.

With 120 appearances to his name during his time at Fulham, Sessegnon boasts an impressive 25 goals and 18 assists. Although game time in London dried up as the manager that signed him Mauricio Pochettino was replaced by Jose Mourinho. It was the Portuguese manager that gave him some opportunities as injuries hampered Spurs last season. In 12 appearances, he got one goal and one assist so will be looking to get game time.

Hoffenheim have been used by English clubs in recent seasons to farm out youngsters as the Bundesliga appears to be alternate route to first team football in England.
