Celtic star’s verdict on German manager’s encouraging words

Nicolas Kuhn delivered his verdict on Julien Nagelsmann’s encouraging comments about the Celtic winger’s lifelong dream…

The former Bayern Munich manager last week name-checked the inform Hoops winger an interview with the German national press. Nagelsmann said that, “Kuhn is a good player with a lot of desire. He’s someone we’re keeping an eye on.”

This vote of confidence from the German national team manager will undoubtedly give Kuhn who is enjoying the best spell of his career, an added layer of morale. The 24 year-old has emerged as Brendan Rodgers’ star man this season racking up 10 goals and 11 assists in all competitions and enjoying life at Celtic like a non Gamstop casino jackpot winner.

An eye-catching display in the Champions League which saw Nicolas Kuhn grab a double against his ex-academy side RB Leipzig clearly sought the attention of elite Germany head coach Julien Nagalsmann.

Delivering on the domestic scene and on the continent has subsequently resulted in speculation surrounding Kuhn’s future in Glasgow’s East End. But, noise coming from both his agent and himself has this week has outlined that his feet remains firmly on the ground.

Although featuring for Germany u20s four years ago, Kuhn has yet to make a senior appearance at national team level, but he insists that lifelong ambition can be fulfilled.

“I think that’s what we play for [international recognition]. The focus is now on Celtic, but of course that’s a goal of mine,” he explained to Sky Sports in an interview last week ahead of the trip to Tynecastle, which Celtic won 4-1.

“I said a couple of years ago already the goal is to play in the national team. The first goal was the Champions League, I made that dream come true and yeah, we will see.”

Unlike some players in Scottish football, Celtic’s red-hot winger took immense pride and satisfaction in scoring and celebrating against his former employers a fortnight ago in Europe’s elite club competition.

“Yeah, and not just any German team, it was my former club, it was even better,” he said. “I enjoyed it a lot and after I talked to some of the guys from there, so it was really nice.”

“I try to create a lot of chances, score goals and at the moment I feel really good and happy. Hopefully we keep going like this.”

Kuhn will be one of the first names on the teamsheet for Celtic’s clash with Club Brugge at Celtic Park tomorrow evening as Brendan Rodgers’ men aim to maintain their unbeaten home run in the Champions League by taking the three points from the Belgian Champions.
