Celtic submit bid for right-back target but face competition from Turkey

Celtic have submitted a bid for Royal Antwerp’s Aurelio Buta, according to journalist Ekrem Konur. Konur is one of the most renowned transfer journalists and he has said that Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is keen for the deal done as soon as possible. The defeat to West Ham emphasised how important defence recruitments are ahead of the beginning of the Premiership season next weekend.

The 24-year-old still has a year left at the Belgian club but the Portuguese full-back would be an impressive acquisition for the Parkhead side. Celtic are are said to be €1m short in their bid for Buta according to Konur but it would be ideal that Celtic would have a new right-back in place as soon as possible.

The player has gained interest from a number of teams with Wolves failing in a £5m bid for the player 18 months ago with the player opting to remain in Belgium. The Daily Record are claiming that Fenerbahce are keen on the player as well and will likely compete for his signature.

However, the former Benfica youth prospect could look at moving up the rungs of football with a move to Glasgow’s East End. Buta is aggressive, attacking and quick. He would probably resemble Jeremie Frimpong in terms of style – keen to get forward and maybe more of a wingback.
