Celtic suffer left back blow as second bid rejected for Charlton starlet

CELTIC have had their second bid for Alfie Doughty thrown out as Charlton desperately try and keep hold of the 20-year-old starlet. The versatile wingback was the subject of a second bid from the Scottish Champions but the Glasgow Times reports that the £650k fee was not enough to force the London side to consider parting with one of their prized assets.

It is expected that Neil Lennon will return for the player that would allow him an attacking left option for the 3-5-2. However, it is likely that they are courting other options – mainly a left footed centre back should interest crystallise in Kris Ajer.

Doughty’s contract expires next summer, leaving him free to sign a pre-contract agreement in January. Whilst it is clear that Lennon wants his man, there may be other options to explore in the meantime as Celtic look to replace Bolingoli.

Elsewhere, two players that Celtic decided against were in form in Ligue 1 as Romain Perraud and Birger Meling got a goal and two assists between them over the weekend. Celtic still haven’t replaced Kieran Tierney and over a year later, the left back position is still a priority as the club go for 10IAR.
