Celtic target more K-League raids after Yang Hyun-jun bid

Celtic is planning a major raid of the K-League this summer transfer window after already having launched a bid for forward Yang Hyun-jun. The Gangwon FC winger is a player the Hoops are keen to get their hands on and it is being reported that the feeling is very much mutual on the player’s part, however his club are playing hardball over his potential exit.

With that news coming to the fore in the past couple of days, Daily Record are now reporting that Brendan Rodgers and the new-look recruitment team at Parkhead are planning to plunder more gems from the Asian continent. With a raft of Japanese players already brought to the club by ex-boss, Ange Postecoglou, it now appears that we are turning our attention to procuring more of Hyeon-gyu Oh’s countrymen this close-season.

The names mentioned are forward, Eom Ji-sung and his teammate, Jeong Ho-yeon who plays as a midfield anchor man. Both men are employed by Gwangju in Korea’s top-flight league and it seems that new manager, Brendan Rodgers is very much happy to continue to tap into markets that have been somewhat underused throughout European football.

All but one of our imports from that side of the world have been a success, with Yosuke Ideguchi being the only arrival to miss the target for the Bhoys. However, it must also be said that he was unlucky when he arrived to have been so brutally attacked in a Scottish Cup tie against Alloa Athletic which stunted his potential growth and subsequent impact on the main stage at Paradise.

Hopefully whoever the club bring in this summer can have the same impact as Reo Hatate, Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Hyeon-gyu Oh.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
