Celtic target reveals that he always asks Izaguirre to recommend him to the club

ALBERTH ELIS has revealed that he asked Emilio Izaguirre to recommend him to the Scottish Champions in order to force a move to Scotland. The winger was the subject of interest in January but the bid was rejected by Houston Dynamo.

Dynamo have offered a new deal to the winger but the Honduran is looking for a move to Europe with his contract nearing an end with the MLS club. Elis has already said that he has ambitions to play in Europe but Houston have offered the 24-year-old a new deal in the hope of keeping him stateside.

However, as reported by the Daily Record, Elis has asked Izaguirre for advice on a potential move to Neil Lennon’s side as well as asking the left-back to put in a good word with the Celtic hierarchy in order to broker a deal.

“When I first played for Honduras I asked Emilio to recommend me to Celtic. In fact, always ask him that!

“There are clubs who would be nice to play for because they are always challenging for titles and cups.

“I have spoken to Emilio about Celtic and he’s told me they are at another level.

“For me, since the day I left Olimpica, I’ve never hidden the fact that my dream is to go and play in Europe and compete in the Champions League.

“Houston know my position. They have offered me a new contract and I will decide on my future at the end of the season. I would have liked to have played 100 games for the club, but that may not be possible now.”

With 42-caps to his name, Elis would have no trouble getting a visa in order to sign for Celtic and as the club had reportedly offered £3m from him previously, he would be a steal with his deal expiring this year. In 110 career appearances, Elis has 34 goals and 25 assists which is a very good return for a winger.

Izaguirre spent eight years at Celtic Park and was adored by fans with passionate, energetic and dedicated performances down the left side of defence.
