Celtic targeting loan deal for highly-rated Portuguese winger, according to report

Celtic are said to be targeting a deal for Benfica’s Filipe Jota. The 22-year-old spent last year on loan at La Liga side Real Valladolid and made 19 appearances, scoring once and assisting once but now the Daily Record are reporting that the Portuguese winger is a potential target for Ange Postecoglou’s side. The Australian wants a few more signings as the deadline approaches on Tuesday.

This story is probably one that could be just an option that the club have, or more cynically, Celtic could be using him to get a better deal for supposed target Kristijan Lovric.

Lovric of Gorica has been touted as a potential signing but the talk of the Croatian Internationalist arriving has calmed in recent weeks. Lovric plays primarily as a left-winger but can also play as a second striker or on the right wing. In 102 appearances for the Croatian side, Lovric has scored 46 goals and notched 24 assists. It would be preferable to sign players as opposed to loaning players. You would expect Celtic are pushing to get another deal or two over the line as Liam Scales signed today and Georgious Giakoumakis nearing his move.

Interest in Odsonne Edouard is heating up and it could be his last game for Celtic on Sunday against Rangers at Ibrox. The Frenchman has been brilliant in that fixture at times and could leave on a high with a performance against Steven Gerrard’s side.
