Celtic tipped to sign former youngster in £2m transfer

It’s easy to criticise a club when they end up paying a big fee to bring a former youth player back in the future, but it’s not always the worst thing.

It is amazing how often you hear of someone being released as a kid for being too small, but the game is being ruined at the top level by the big clubs just hoarding players and stunting their development, so letting them go can often by the wise choice.

Aaron Hickey was at Celtic as a kid before moving on to Hearts, and he’s quickly established himself as one of the more intriguing youngsters in the league, with this determination and skill allowing him to stand out at full back.

It’s likely he won’t have had these first team chances at Celtic, so things probably worked out quite well for him.

A recent report from HITC has looked at some comments from former Celtic full back Mark Wilson, and it seems like he’s a big fan of the Hearts player.

He describes him as outstanding and thinks Celtic should make a move to bring him back, although the report does indicate that he might cost as much as £2m.

That could change though, as it’s possible that Hearts will go down to the Championship and that will present a financial challenge. As a result, it’s possible they might have to cash in and he would be cheaper.

He’s only 17 so it’s unlikely he would be an instant starter, but he could develop for a few years while providing a rotation option on either side of the defence, so it could make a lot of sense for Celtic.
