Celtic to miss out on €4m-rated prolific Croatian striker

Celtic appear to have missed out on Croatian striker Franko Kovacevic. The 26-year-old has scored 25 goals in 28 games for NK Celje, resulting in interest from the Scottish Champions.

Martin O’Neill was asked about the nomadic forward, who is enjoying an incredible goalscoring season but it appears that Celtic have been beaten to his signature by Budapest side Ferencvaros.

Celtic and Polish side Legia Warsaw have been mentioned as potential contenders to bring in the striker. However, it appears that Robbie Keane’s Ferencvaros have secured a deal.

It has been reported that Kovacevic is en route to Budapest with his agent as he looks set to complete his medical before signing a contract.

It has been reported that Celtic were considering the player but there was no formal bid tabled. The former Croatian U21 International has had spells in Cyprus, Germany, USA as well as Croatia but has finally found his scoring tough in Slovenia.

Celtic need to add a couple quality players to the squad, especially with the crucial meeting against Hearts at Tynecastle next weekend.

  1. I said it a couple of weeks ago, Boycott is now the only option. We have had every manager since Martin first time around telling the fans we need signings in quickly.

Now not including double appointees (managers that came back) or temporary appointments, that equates to 7 managers over 25 years who have been saying the same thing to a board that strive to be first class in everything that they do!

Well we have just be ousted by Robbie Keene for Kovacevic, first class? Our board aren’t even second class, and are struggling to be third class. We lost out to a smaller team that doesn’t have £77million in the bank and a manager that has beaten therangers in Europe.

Our board are first class, first class half wits, first class inept at doing their job which they are handsomly pain and first class egotists but most of all fist class at being totally clueless. We sold our best stricker a year ago, sold second best in the summer and as we speak thw board have not addressed this. First class numbnuts are what they are.

  2. Paralysed by bureaucracy or a genuine unwillingness to improve the team. Or are we that hopeless at negotiations? Probably all three.
This guy was available on a plate, for a relatively modest fee, and by all accounts we’d already “made contact”.
But we still can’t close the deal on the top priority position. Utterly pathetic.

Then again, Kovacevic will be close to home in Budapest, playing in a dominant side, in a beautiful city, still trying to knock on the door of the international team. This could still very much be a personal decision down to the player.
But I’m willing to bet we were slow to react regardless. Amateurs.
