Celtic To Monitor Former Newcastle United Star’s Son Catching The Eye In League One

Airdrie midfielder Thomas Robert has been on trial with Celtic for two weeks and the club will now continue to run the rule over the Frenchman when he returns to League One action.

Lower league football was shut down in Scotland some weeks ago, which enabled the 20-year-old to embark on a training stint at Lennoxtown. Robert is a former Montpellier trainee, whose father Laurent played in the Premier League for Newcastle United. Since signing for Airdrie he has been in fine form and Diamonds boss Ian Murray admitted the club were bracing themselves for bids in January, though no offers materialised.

A number of clubs are said to be interested in the player aside from Celtic. According to Football Insider, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hearts, Hibs and Rangers have also been linked with a move for the French midfielder – who has scored four goals in 14 games so far this season.

This news comes after Celtic have formally announced a pre-contract deal with Sheffield Wednesday for young midfielder Liam Shaw and are thought to be closing in on a move for Wigan Athletic’s Kyle Joseph.

Thomas Robert is now set for a return to promotion-chasing Airdrie before they restart their League One campaign at Dumbarton next weekend. It will be interesting to see if there are any further developments over the coming weeks.
