Celtic’s Ross Doohan starts as trialist for Ross County against Scottish Champions

CELTIC have allowed Ross Doohan to play for Ross County against the Scottish Champions in today’s friendly. The young goalkeeper was named in the starting XI as a trialist against his parent club as he looks to seal a short term switch to the Highlands side.

The Staggies have been waiting to seal their own deal for Ross Doohan as Celtic stall on signing a new club No.1. Should the trial go well, the loan deal will allow Doohan to compete with Ross Laidlaw for the first team spot in Stuart Kettlewell’s side allowing him to make the Premiership step up after two seasons with Championship side Ayr United.

The 22-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Scotland U21s and should Neil Lennon recruit another goalkeeper, it would make sense to give Doohan some Premiership experience. In his early twenties, Doohan has the potential to become the first team keeper at Celtic one day but this season a seasoned pro, like Forster, is what the club need.

Celtic have been heavily linked with a move for Fraser Forster and AEK Athens’ Vasilios Barkas the main two candidates as well as Wigan’s David Marshall and Joe Hart also being linked with the vacancy. Following the end of Forster’s loan deal as well as Craig Gordon leaving for Hearts, Scott Bain remains the only first team goalkeeper at the club.
