During Ange Postecoglou’s Champions League Media Conference, the Celtic manager provided the Celtic fans a very welcome update on star striker Kyogo’s fitness. After receiving a nasty shoulder knock in the first minute of the Glasgow Derby, Kyogo had to go off. Giorgos Giakoumakis replaced the Japanese striker and Celtic still went on to skelp theRangers 4-0, but Celtic fans looking forward to tonight were left concerned that Kyogo wouldn’t be fit for the Champions League opening match against European Champions, Real Madrid.
However, Ange delighted the Celtic support by confirming that Kyogo attended training yesterday and will be available for tonight’s match. “He trained this morning and looked ok,” Ange said. “He’s available. I make the decision whether he’ll play or not, but in terms of him training and doing everything in training, he was fine.”
However it wasn’t all good news on the injury front with the knee injury Carl Starfelt suffered against theRangers set to keep the Sweden international defender sidelined for a few weeks so he wont be available tonight’s game.
“On the weekend, Carl Starfelt hurt his knee. We don’t have an exact diagnosis, but it’s nothing too serious but will probably keep him out for a couple of weeks.”
Although we don’t know whether Kyogo will make a start against Real Madrid, it’s comforting knowing he will be match fit. With his recent form, and outstanding ability, he is a weapon Ange will be keen to utalise in the effort to defeat the European Champions. In any case, the strength and depth of the current Celtic squad provides Ange with enough choices to maintain our high standard of play, and with the likes of Jenz and Giakoumakis stepping in, Celtic will certainly put on a show on Tuesday evening.
