Celtic v Real Madrid: Predicted XI for Champions League Opener

Celtic will return to the Champions League Group Stage tonight against the holders, Real Madrid. Ange has already said that his side won’t change their approach to the game meaning that we are likely to enjoy a feast of attacking football.

Joe Hart will start in goals. The Englishman’s last Champions League appearance came in the Semi Final defeat against Madrid at the Bernabéu. It was an inspired performance and six years separate the appearances for Hart and he will certainly savour the moment.

In defence, Moritz Jenz will come in and replace Starfelt. He will be joined by Cameron Carter-Vickers. The USA Internationalist was rock solid against Rangers and he will need to bring that against Karim Benzema & Co.

In midfield, you cannot see by the midfield three of Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate. The arrival of Oliver Ablidgaard is a sign that Ange was keen to provide defensive cover but he’s stating that he wants to go at the Spanish Champions from the start.

Giorgos Giakoumakis will lead the line, he will be joined by Jota on the wing and then it’ll likely be Liel Abada, who is in a great run of form.

Even against the Champions of Europe, Celtic will still have a strong bench capable of causing them problems. It will certainly be difficult but there is a feeling that Celtic can cause an upset.

If you’re beginning to get butterflies in your stomach, you’re not alone… come on Celtic!

  1. Are you forgetting our full backs? I take it we will be playing with 11 players. I know it is only Real Madrid, but I think 11 v 11 will give us a better chance. Hail Hail😂😂
