Celtic v Sparta Prague – “People seem to like pointing fingers at this squad,” Callum McGregor

Callum McGregor reckons that Celtic are throw their dodgy spell of form and have now kicked into top gear that will see the team have the required momentum for the rest of this season.

Celtic suffered badly for a few weeks as injuries, Coronavirus call-offs and even some political shenanigans that cost us Ryan Christie for the Glasgow Derby all added up to a mini-crisis. The players, the captain, the manager, the board, sections of the support who supported any of the former, all came under pressure as the media had a field day at Celtic’s expense. For all the bluster and hot air Celtic are in the Scottish Cup Final next month and are effectively 3 points behind if the games in hand are won, and that really comes down to what happened against theRangers who had everything in their favour that day.

There are three other Glasgow Derbies and they won’t get lucky like that again. So we can and should look forward with growing confidence and with a steely resolve to winning our Quadruple Treble and making history by winning our tenth successive title.

McGregor can feel the change as the squad strength along with the team’s form improved. And tomorrow against Sparta Prague – ironically suffering similar problems to the Celtic of a month ago – gives McGregor and his teammates a chance to get right back into things in the Europa League quest to secure European football after Christmas. A double header win over the Czechs is essential for that one to have a decent chance.

“Once you get the full squad back it lifts competition for places and, subconsciously, players raise their performance level and the whole thing starts to gather pace from there.

“People seem to like pointing fingers at this squad,” McGregor noted today as reported by Scottish Sun. “But we always come back and answer the critics really well. We’ve come out of a difficult week there with some good performances that have improved game on game.

“Everyone expected us to lose to Lille but we were one or two moments away from winning the game and that shows the character and determination of the boys.

“As soon as anyone starts to question the group, then the boys react really well and that’s been the case in the last few games. It’s a mix of everything coming together and the boys really kicking into gear now.

“That’s the catalyst for the season now, building on these performance levels in every game and maintaining the momentum.”
