Grant Irvine has been appointed as the referee between Celtic and St Mirren for this afternoon’s Scottish Premiership encounter…
Mind the Gap
Brendan Rodgers will be expecting a much-needed response following his side’s harrowing 3-0 defeat to theRangers at Ibrox on Thursday. It was Celtic’s first domestic defeat of the season, but the gap between the Premiership’s top two remains a significant 11 points.
St Mirren are the visitors at Paradise today, and Stephen Robinson’s men also suffered a sore loss in their first outing of 2025. Kilmarnock convincingly defeated the Buddies 2-0 at Rugby Park three days ago.
St Mirren beat theRangers on Boxing Day
Since St Mirren’s shock 2-1 victory over theRangers on Boxing Day, losses to Dundee and then Kilmarnock have not influenced their league standings. Robinson’s side are still in a respectable fifth position, inside those European spots, seven points off Aberdeen in fourth.
Today’s Match Officials
Meanwhile, the whistler for today’s clash at Celtic Park is Grant Irvine. Irvine’s last top-flight appointment was 30 November 2024 where David Gray’s Hibs comprehensively beat Motherwell 3-0 at Fir Park. Fourth Official for Celtic’s league match with St Johnstone last Sunday, Irvine will be the man in the middle in Glasgow’s East End.
This will only be Irvine’s sixth Scottish Premiership game this season. And, it’ll be only his second time refereeing Celtic in his refereeing career.
Irvine’s last game in charge of Celtic was back in August 2023. Celtic ran out 3-0 winners against Dundee at Paradise.
Andrew Dallas on VAR duties
Assisting Irvine onfield is Assistant Referee 1, Jonathan Bell, who will be joined alongside Assistant Referee 2, Graham McNeillie. Manning VAR duties at Clydesdale House is our old friend, Andrew Dallas. Taking the role as Assistant VAR will be Gary Hilland.
Celtic v St Mirren kicks off at 3pm this afternoon. For those not able to attend there’s a PPV service available today via Celtic TV for £12.99 and of course the match is, as always, available to Celtic TV subscribers living outside of Britain and Ireland on the club’s own channel.
