Celtic v Young Boys: Brendan’s Predicted XI for must-win clash

Celtic face Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League this evening. The Scottish Champions go into the game knowing that three points against the Swiss side will put them on target for a place in the next phase of the competition.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that there are no injury problems in his squad, with the exception of James Forrest. You would expect the team picks itself but the midfield will always create debate.

Kasper Schmeichel will start in goals. The 38-year-old penned an extension earlier today and he’ll be looking to back that up tonight. After conceding 7 goals and facing 13 shots against Dortmund, Celtic have conceded just twice despite facing 14 goals in the last four games, which is testament to the quality of the Danish goalkeeper.

Austin Trusty continued in the team after a poor display at Dens Park and showed his qualities in the win over Kilmarnock. The USA Internationalist will partner his countryman Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of the defence. Alistair Johnston will start at right back and Greg Taylor at left back.

The big call for Brendan comes in the middle of the park – who starts alongside Callum McGregor. There will be notable mentions for Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo but you cannot see beyond Reo Hatate and Arne Engels, especially given the balance that the pair bring.

In attack, Kyogo will start through the middle with the preferred wide options of Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kühn starting.

Predicted XI: Schmeichel; Taylor, Trusty, Carter-Vickers, Johnston; McGregor, Hatate, Engels; Maeda, Kyogo, Kühn.
