Celtic View Suspended due to “Pandemic-Enforced Lockdown”

The Celtic club magazine Celtic View has today been “temporarily suspended” due to “issues caused by the pandemic-enforced lockdown”.

“Due to issues caused by the pandemic-enforced lockdown, we have temporarily suspended publication of the Celtic View. An update will be provided as soon as possible,” the official Celtic View account on just tweeted.

Launched as a newspaper and the official voice of Celtic on 11 August 965 with the intention of countering the lack of Celtic content in the MSM the View was there every step of the way as Jock Stein’s exciting Celtic team went on to win the European Cup and Nine-in-a-Row, through to Billy McNeill dramatic first season title win on a Monday night in May 1979 and as he built an exciting young Celtic side.  Davie Hay’s Day in Paisley,  Centenary season will Cesar back and then the dark days as the club lost it’s way and also it’s control of the club newspaper.

Beautiful Sunday

The Celtic View became embroiled in The Celtic financial and structural crisis in the 1990s and ended up being published by former Sun Editor Steve Sampson, who was a close associate of David Murray – working with him on his ill-fated Sunday newspaper launch The Sunday Scot. They gave away mince with the launch edition, which was rather appropriate.

Sampson though, with backing, was able to gain control of publishing on both Celtic View and Rangers News and eventually sold his company to the owners of Daily Record and Sunday Mail (these days called Reach).

Fergus McCann arrival meant that Celtic View was brought back in Celtic hands but it took a number of years to rid the club of Sampson and indeed Reach remain the club’s partners to this day.

Hopefully The Celtic View will be back soon.
