Celtic youngster sets targets after sealing loan move

Celtic youngster Adam Montgomery has set his sights on securing as high a league finish as possible after sealing a return to St Johnstone. The left-sided player was pictured back at Lennoxtown but it was clear that a return to McDiarmid Park was being considered by Callum Davidson.

Speaking to St Johnstone’s official website, Montgomery said he was delighted to sign on for the second half of the season and that he was hoping to help the Saints push up the table.

“I’m delighted to sign for a second spell, I have really enjoyed my time here so far. When I heard the gaffer wanted to keep me for another 6 months it was an easy answer. The gaffer, staff and the boys have been great since I came in and that made the decision really easy for me.

“The competition for places in the squad drives standards in training every day, I know I will need to continue to work hard if I want to play at St Johnstone.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of the rest of the season and helping Saints finish as high up the table as possible.”

The 20-year-old enjoyed 17 appearances for Davidson’s Saints in the first half of the season, playing predominantly at left midfield.

The initial loan was only a short-term deal but it appeared to be successful with the player gaining regular first-team football. The versatile youngster is returning back up to Perth, where he will look to stake a claim for a place at Celtic when he returns.
