Adam Montgomery has been a surprise package for Celtic this year. He made his first start in the win over St Johnstone in Scott Brown’s last game but it was believed that he would be ‘one for the future’ as opposed to a first-team player under the new manager.
Ange Postecoglou clearly thought differently and has decided to bring the 19-year-old into the fold on a regular basis so far. As a result, he has shown increased composure and quality on the ball. In last night’s game for Scotland’s U21s, we got a glimpse of what might be coming for Celtic as he picked out an excellent cross to assist Middleton.

Montgomery was joined by Stephen Welsh, who captained the side. Welsh first made his Celtic debut back in 2019/20 in a win over Hamilton but backed up an impressive debut with solid displays last season, where defensive stability was thin on the ground. Welsh will be hoping to kick on under Ange, despite new recruits Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers coming to the club to compete with Christopher Jullien for the starting berths. Welsh is progressing into a fine footballer but he will need games to do this but whether he is one of the two best defenders at the club remains to be seen in the coming weeks and months.
