Celtic’s chance to ramp up the pressure on title rivals, St Mirren

Time to ramp up the pressure on The Buddies…

Today Celtic need to ramp up the pressure on our nearest rivals as we go into the international break and three points will set us up nicely and we can then look forward to the next big event at Celtic Park when The Celtic Star take over the Kerrydale on Thursday 19 October to provide some Celtic entertainment amid the lull in club football. Full details below on that one and hopefully we’ll see you there!

This afternoon and a wet and wild Celtic Park we  must take maximum points against Kilmarnock and head into the break in good spirits, and there’s some pay-back involved too for that League Cup defeat earlier in the season down at Rugby Park.

St Mirren of course don’t play until Sunday and although they have a tricky challenge in the shape of Govan minnows theRangers, they will be fired up all the same and we don’t want to give them any ray of hope.

We win today and we will go seven points clear of the Buddies with a much superior goal difference. Although Celtic are facing tougher opposition that our title rivals this weekend Brendan Rodgers should have the team recovered from the midweek efforts and agony against Lazio to secure the three points. If there’s an upset at Paisley and the game ends in a win for the Ibrox club that will leave us with a decent lead at the top.

So the pressure is on St Mirren who are giving Celtic a real title race to relish, which hasn’t happened when fans have been at games since the year Craig Whyte put the old Ibrox club into Administration. Aberdeen to be fair, put in a decent challenge one season until Tom Rogic’s wonder goal against Kilmarnock ended that just as it was getting interesting.

And today as already mentioned is the perfect opportunity for us to extract some revenge on the Ayrshire side after they eliminated us from the league cup at the end of August. It one of those games where we just need to get the points. A 1-0 victory would suffice, but I would like nothing more than to see us turn on the style and take four or five goals off Kilmarnock and make it another miserable trip to Paradise for Derek McInnes, who will be trying to keep his head down incase he has to tell theRangers (again) that he’s not interested in taking over from Michael.

We’ve certainly got it in us to do give Kilmarnock a hammering but as I say, I’d take a 1-0 win now.. The weather is rotten but let’s hope it’s a brilliant Saturday, football speaking and then we’ll see if St Mirren can take care of theRangers tomorrow where we know points will be dropped by one or both of the chasing pack.
